Why do some people not like Squarespace?
If everyone liked the same thing, life would be boring, right? There are a number of reasons why some people don't like Squarespace. From a small agency point of view, it's probably because of the inability to add custom content structures. There is only so much you can do with Squarespace in that respect. Some others don't like the editor, but we find that the vast majority of clients like the editor; it's intuitive to use, and the options are plentiful when it comes to customisation.
Some others find the interface clunky. Some find some pages load slow.
For an affordable, out-of-the-box solution for customers who don't want to learn to code, Squarespace is up there with the best if you ask us. Not perfect, but very good.
I wrote another post about improvements I'd like to see in Squarespace.
What are the unique features of Squarespace?
Squarespace has two main templating options. The built-in templates are of a very high standard, and you can also buy custom third-party templates from experienced Squarespace template designers. These high-quality template options are a big plus point for the platform.
Fluid Engine is a very popular part of Squarespace. It gives you great control and custom options and is intuitive to use
Do professional web designers use SS?
Yes, many professional web designers use Squarespace. There is a whole directory on the Squarespace website. These are primarily freelancers and small teams of 2-3 people. Few large agencies use Squarespace as they are highly skilled and can use solutions like Craft CMS and WordPress.
Is paying for Squarespace worth it?
Yes, it's very affordable, and if need be, there are plenty of Squarespace designers/developers who can help you take your site to the next level with customisation.
Is Squarespace good for beginners?
Squarespace is excellent for beginners; you just choose a template, and away you go, customising pages, images, text, content, and navigation. It's one of the best website builders for getting up and running quickly.
How do I edit Squarespace without going live?
You can work away on a free trial account until you are 100% satisfied with your site, and you can launch it to the world when you want. You can also put a password on your site at any time, so only people you want can access it.
Is there anything better than Squarespace?
Wix is certainly a worthy mention here. It's quite similar to Squarespace and is built with beginners in mind. If you are looking for a next-level system, then Framer and Webflow are increasing in popularity. They give you a ton more options but are suited to people who have a good chunk of web design experience behind them.
For your everyday small business that wants a straightforward website that looks a bit different from its competitors, Squarespace and Wix are both a worthy choice.
